Liam is shortlisted for Young Sports Personality of the Year awards

28th Nov 2011

You may have seen over the last 24 hours in the press that Liam has been nominated for the coveted Young Sports Personality of the Year Awards 2011.

Liam has been busy all year competing around the world to try and boost his world ranking. He is currently the youngest player ranked inside the top 700 on the ATP Men's Tour. He reached the final of the Boys' Singles at Wimbledon this summer and the semi-finals of the Boys' Doubles, having won the latter in 2010.

Liam's other star contenders feature three-time former winner Tom Daley and fellow diver Jack Laugher, swimmer Eleanor Simmonds, paralympic athlete Sally Brown and Wimbledon favourite Laura Robson. Boxer Pat McCormack, cyclist Lucy Garner, golfer Lauren Taylor and Rugby Union player Anthony Watson conclude the 10-strong shortlist.

The show taking place on 22 December at Media City UK in Salford Quays, will be aired on BBC 1.

If Liam could take the Young Sports Personality accolade, he would be following in the footsteps of Andy Murray, who was awarded the title in 2004, as well as footballers Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcott.

We wish Liam good luck for this amazing achievement.
